It’s really important for toddlers, children and babies to have healthy snacks in their diet. But getting the balance right between keeping them fed and happy, but also healthy can be tough at times! Healthy toddler snacks are a good way to keep them going as it is important our children maintain a normal balanced diet whilst they are growing up. That’s why we asked some children’s food bloggers to send us their favourite toddler snack ideas and recipes. These baby finger food recipes are really simple to make and we know your little ones will love them, so why not try them out at home today!
Cheese twists
You will need
- 1 sheet of puff pastry
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1-2 handfuls of cheese
Step 1: Roll out the puff pastry and brush the top half with egg wash
Step 2: Add your cheese on top of the egg wash
Step 3: Fold the bottom half of the pastry onto the top and add another layer of egg wash and cheese
Step 4: Cut into even strips (however thick you’d like them), twist them and pop them onto a baking tray
Step 5: Cook in the oven at 180 degrees for around 15 minutes!
Multicoloured fruit ice lolly’s
You will need
- Coconut milk (any milk will work)
- A handful strawberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 4 tbsp water
- Flavoured still water (whatever flavour you like)
- Blueberries
Step 1: Add the still water and blueberries to your mould and freeze until solid
Step 2: Add the milk layer on top, add your stick & freeze until solid
Step 3: In a pot add the water and strawberries and cook until soft
Step 4: Add the chia seeds and cook until thickened
Step 5: Add to the moulds and freeze until solid
Step 6: Serve & enjoy
Banana, avocado and chocolate chip mini loaves
You will need
- 150g self-raising flour
- 100g oats
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 avocado (125g without skin)
- 2 medium bananas (160g without skin)
- 90ml milk (any milk you’d like - I used oat)
- 2 eggs (or flax eggs)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 60g chocolate chips (I used 70% dark) - you can leave these out or sub for raisins if you prefer
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 180c fan
Step 2: Lightly grease a mini loaf tin or 12 hole muffin tin
Step 3: Mash the avocado and bananas in a large mixing bowl
Step 4: Add the eggs, milk and extract and mix
Step 5: Add the flour, oats and baking powder and mix until combined
Step 6: Finally, stir through the chocolate chips (keep a few to sprinkle on top!)
Step 7: Pour mixture into the tin
Step 8: Sprinkle a few chocolate chips on top
Step 9: Bake for 25 minutes or until skewer comes out clean
Freeze for up to 3 months
Cucumber sushi
You will need
- Half a small cucumber
- A large carrot
- A slice of ham
- Cheese cut into small cubes
Step 1: Wash your cucumber and cut into equal pieces. Cut out the middle
Step 2: Wash and peel your carrots, cutting them into finger pieces
Step 3: Cut your ham into thin strips and roll them up
Step 4: Place the carrot, ham and cheese cubes into the centre of the cucumber
Pea and cheddar muffins
You will need
- Half a tin of mushy peas
- 1 handful of grated cheddar
- 2 eggs
- 3 tbsp of self-raising flour
- 1 tbsp of plain yoghurt
Step 1: Turn the oven to 180.
Step 2: Add the ingredients to a bowl and mix thoroughly to ensure no lumps of flour
Step 3: Spoon the mixture into 6 greased muffin moulds
Step 4: Bake for 30 minutes at 180
Step 5: Leave for 10 minutes before popping them out
