How to make your home safer for your baby this Child Safety Week

Keeping your baby safe is always at the front of your mind – and ours – which is why we’re here to help you find the baby safety products that will help to keep them safe at all times, whether that’s as they sleep, in the bath or out in the car. As we head into Child Safety Week (4th-11th June), we thought we’d remind you which baby safety products parents find the most useful in helping to keep their little ones safer at home. Whether you’re an expectant parent wondering what will give you peace of mind when your little one arrives or you’re the parent of a little one that’s just started on the move, wondering how to make your home safer, take a read of our guide to the most popular and trusted baby safety products.

Bath Time Safety

Bathing your little one should be a soothing, enjoyable experience for both of you, but new parents can often feel daunted by some of the potential dangers being in the bath can pose. We have a couple of tips to alleviate those concerns. Firstly, you can make sure the water is at a safe temperature with a baby bath thermometer. Next up, a baby bath support or bath seat can help you to make sure your baby is more secure in the bath.

Angelcare’s Soft-Touch Bath Support is designed for younger babies (up to around 6 months) and provides a worry-free bath time for all. Its smart design keeps baby secure, snug, and comfy in quickly warming soft-touch material. The unique design holds baby safely leaving your hands free to wash and play and the water level indicator provides optimal safety. For older babies (6-10 months) you could try the Angelcare Soft Touch Baby Bath Seat. It fits nicely into your bath and is securely held in place by four extra strong suction cups, meaning bath time is less of a fuss.

Baby Proofing your home

As your little one grows and becomes more active, you'll need to find ways to baby proof your home to keep them safe. Sharp corners, doors and cupboards and stairs can all pose potential risks to your little one. Baby safety gates can give you peace of mind that your little one isn’t reaching places in the home where they can be at risk of getting hurt.

Bedtime Safety

Whether you want to keep an eye on them as they sleep, keep an ear out for little sounds or monitor their movement, breathing or heart rate for extra peace of mind, our range of baby cameras and baby monitors will help out. With models from the most popular smart baby video monitor brands including Leapfrog, VTech and Nanit, monitoring your little one at night or during naptime has never been easier. You'll find simple audio baby monitors to listen out for sounds, or video smart baby monitors with enhanced audio, night vision and lullabies.

Whether you are at home or on the move, you can be sure your baby is safe and sound as they sleep. A nursery room thermometer is an easy way to make sure where they sleep is the optimum temperature for safe sleep. Choose a nursery thermometer with an added night light to help them feel safer as they get used to sleeping in their own room too.

First Air and Grooming

Every so often kids have a bump or a graze so keep a first aid kit handy, just in case. The Family First Aid Kit is ideal for days out, short breaks or family holidays, containing all the necessary basic first aid items you are likely to need to treat most common injuries. Also, little things can help on a day-to-day basis. Keep their nails short enough so they don’t scratch themselves, keep a thermometer to hand to check their body temperature and a nasal aspirator for blocked noses.

A kit like Tommee Tippee’s Closer to Nature healthcare and grooming kit has it all. It comes complete with a thermometer, nasal aspirator, toothbrush, 2 emery boards, nail clippers, scissors, brush and comb, all neatly packed in a convenient pouch. Keep one in your baby changing bag, bathroom cabinet and pack one in your suitcase when you jet off on holiday.

And don't forget...

Products that help keep your baby safe are important, but they aren’t the end of the story. You need to be vigilant about what you leave out at home, particularly when you have a baby that’s crawling/toddling around, a toddler or young children, who can be particularly susceptible to the potential dangers of many household items. Just a few things to consider are: loose change and button batteries – both are potential choking hazards; household cleaning products and medication can be poisonous and even lethal; pot handles containing boiling hot water can be reached and grabbed; mugs of hot drinks can be knocked over and scald; cords (phone chargers, blind chords, baby monitor wires) can be a strangulation hazard. Always keep these far out of reach of little hands and mouths.
