Weaning Essentials and Baby Recipe Ideas from Beaba

Discover delicious winter warmers that your little one will love.

Baby, it’s cold outside! So, to combat the cooler weather, we’ve teamed up with Béaba to cook up some baby weaning recipes that’ll keep your little one cosy from the inside out. From hearty seasonal vegetables and gently spiced Christmas cake, to the festive favourite Brussels sprout – we won’t blame you if you fancy a little taste of these winter warmers yourself.

It can be tricky knowing what flavours and consistencies to try when you’re weaning your little one. So, as well as being tasty and super-nutritious for baby, these recipes are designed to be really easy for you to make with the Béaba Babycook. Giving you a helping hand in the kitchen, this baby blender is perfect for when your hands are full with your little one. It can steam, cook and blend your baby’s food in around 15 minutes, and it’ll even defrost and reheat meals – we think it’s an essential when it comes to healthy weaning.

  • 40g dried figs
  • 30g dried apricots
  • 40g cranberries
  • 40g unsalted butter, melted
  • 35g muscovado sugar
  • 35ml runny honey
  • 1 unwaxed medium orange
  • 1/4tsp mixed spice
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1tbps cocoa
  • 2tbps wholemeal flour
  • 2tbps ground almonds
  • 1/8tsp baking powder
  • 1/8tsp bicarbonate of soda

How to make it

  1. Pre-heat your oven to 140C
  2. Process the dried figs, apricots and dates in Béaba Babycook® until chopped, but avoid turning them into a paste
  3. Zest and juice your orange, then keep both to one side
  4. Put the chopped fruit and the cranberries in the steaming basket of your Béaba Babycook® and steam for 5min until soft
  5. Put this sticky fruit mix in a bowl and add the butter, sugar, honey, orange juice and zest, mixed spice, cinnamon and egg. Mix well with a spatula while the fruit is still hot
  6. Add the cocoa, flour, ground almonds, baking soda and bicarbonate and mix well
  7. Spoon the mixture into the 6 portions of a Béaba Multiportion or use a bun tray and bake at 140C for 30 minutes
  8. Check the mini-cakes are done by inserting a cake tester. These are really moist cakes, so a little stickiness is expected
  9. Let them cool down completely by putting the Béaba multiportion or bun tray on a rack

Note: These cakes freeze really well in the Béaba multiportion, but as they’re fruitcakes, they’ll also last a long time when left in the container with the lid tightly on.

Weaning your little one is such an exciting time – there are so many recipes and different ingredients to have fun with. To make your life easier when you’re cooking up new flavours for your little one, we recommend batch cooking baby’s teatime favourites in your Béaba baby food maker, so you’ll always have something to heat up when baby’s hungry.

When it comes to storing all of your tasty creations, Béaba also make some really useful baby food storage. Perfect for eco-friendly weaning, the Multiportion can be used in the oven and in the freezer, or their really handy complete kit for when you’re out and about.

Whatever you’re cooking up for your little one this winter, remember that weaning is all about trying new things, getting creative and having fun.
